The RW series outdoor high-voltage drop-out fuse is a protection device used in AC distribution lines of 12kV and below or on the high-voltage side of distribution transformers. Its main function is to provide short-circuit and overload protection. When the current rises abnormally, the internal fuse element of the fuse will melt, thereby cutting off the circuit and protecting the equipment.
This fuse adopts a single-end downward exhaust design to enhance arc-extinguishing capability and is equipped with a windproof design to ensure its reliability in outdoor environments.

Product Overview

The Outdoor High-Voltage Drop-Out Fuse (RW series) is a critical high-voltage protection fuse designed for outdoor power distribution systems. Specifically engineered for 12kV and below AC distribution lines and distribution transformer high-voltage sides, it provides essential short-circuit and overload protection. As a core component of outdoor power networks, this drop-out fuse combines robust construction with intelligent functionality, ensuring reliable operation in diverse outdoor conditions. Its windproof design, efficient arc extinguishing, and clear fault indication make it indispensable for safeguarding distribution lines, transformers, and other key electrical equipment. Whether in rural power grids, industrial outdoor facilities, or urban overhead lines, the Outdoor High-Voltage Drop-Out Fuse delivers consistent and responsive protection.

Functionality

Overload/Short-Circuit Triggering

The fuse’s core functionality is to detect abnormal current increases. When the circuit current exceeds the rated value (due to overload or short-circuit), the internal fuse element melts from self-generated heat, initiating the protection process. This rapid response prevents fault escalation and protects downstream equipment.

Arc Extinguishing Mechanism

After the fuse element melts, an electric arc is generated. The Outdoor High-Voltage Drop-Out Fuse uses a single-end downward exhaust design to guide the arc to the middle of the fuse tube. Unidirectional gas exhaust enhances arc-extinguishing efficiency, ensuring quick and reliable current interruption to minimize damage.

Drop-Indication Function

Once the fuse element melts, the fuse tube drops downward under its own weight or spring force, creating a clear disconnect point. This visual indication allows maintenance personnel to quickly identify operated fuses, simplifying fault location and repair.

Windproof Structural Design

Tailored for outdoor use, the fuse features a windproof design with only one side reserved for fuse tube dropping. This structure withstands strong winds and external forces, preventing accidental disconnection and ensuring stable operation in harsh weather conditions.

Characteristic Advantages

Superior Outdoor Adaptability

The Outdoor High-Voltage Drop-Out Fuse is built to withstand extreme outdoor conditions, including heavy rain, strong winds, extreme temperatures, and dust. Its high-strength ceramic insulator (cast with metal inserts) resists weathering and mechanical damage, ensuring long-term reliability in open environments.

Efficient Arc Extinguishing

The single-end downward exhaust design is a key advantage, directing the arc and exhaust gases away from upper circuits. This design not only improves arc-extinguishing speed but also prevents conductive gases from endangering adjacent equipment, enhancing overall system safety.

Reliable Fault Triggering

The fuse element is precision-engineered to melt at specific current thresholds, ensuring accurate and consistent triggering. It responds quickly to both overload and short-circuit faults, minimizing the duration of abnormal current flow and protecting equipment from irreversible damage.

Easy Visual Maintenance

The drop-indication function provides a clear visual cue for operated fuses, eliminating the need for complex testing equipment. Maintenance personnel can quickly locate faults and replace fuses, reducing downtime and improving the efficiency of outdoor power network maintenance.

Low Contact Resistance

All conductive contact parts undergo copper-silver plating treatment, reducing contact resistance and minimizing energy loss. This treatment also enhances corrosion resistance, prolonging the fuse’s service life and ensuring stable electrical performance over time.

Applications

Outdoor Distribution Line Protection

The Outdoor High-Voltage Drop-Out Fuse is widely used in overhead distribution lines (12kV and below), protecting lines from short-circuit and overload faults. It is particularly suitable for rural power grids, suburban distribution networks, and overhead lines in urban peripheral areas.

Distribution Transformer Protection

Installed on the high-voltage side of distribution transformers, the fuse safeguards transformers from damage caused by abnormal currents. It is essential for residential area transformers, industrial transformer stations, and rural transformer installations.

Rural Power Grid Applications

Rural power grids often face harsh outdoor conditions and limited maintenance resources. The fuse’s robust design, easy maintenance, and reliable protection make it a perfect fit for rural power distribution, ensuring stable power supply for agricultural and residential use.

Industrial Outdoor Power Distribution

Industrial facilities with outdoor power equipment—such as factories, mining sites, and construction sites—rely on the fuse for protection. It safeguards outdoor transformers, motors, and distribution cabinets, supporting uninterrupted industrial operations.

FAQ

Can it withstand extreme weather conditions?

Yes, the Outdoor High-Voltage Drop-Out Fuse is designed for outdoor use with a windproof structure and high-strength ceramic insulator. It withstands extreme temperatures, heavy rain, strong winds, and dust, ensuring reliable operation in diverse weather conditions.

How to confirm if the fuse has operated?

The fuse features a drop-indication function: after operation, the fuse tube drops downward, creating a visible disconnect point. You can easily confirm operation through visual inspection without additional testing tools.

Does the installation direction matter?

Yes, the single-end downward exhaust design requires correct installation (with the exhaust end facing downward). This ensures effective arc extinguishing and prevents conductive gases from affecting upper circuits. Follow the installation guidelines for optimal performance.

What is the key advantage for outdoor use?

Its windproof design and weather-resistant construction are standout advantages. The fuse tube remains securely in place during strong winds, and the ceramic insulator resists weathering, ensuring consistent protection in open outdoor environments where traditional fuses may fail.

Fuse Element: The fuse is equipped with a fuse element inside. When the current in the circuit exceeds the rated value, the fuse element will melt due to its own heat generation.

Arc Extinguishing: An electric arc will be generated after the fuse element melts. This fuse adopts a single-end downward exhaust design. By guiding the electric arc to the middle of the fuse tube and exhausting gas in one direction, the arc-extinguishing capability is improved, ensuring that the current is cut off quickly and reliably.

Drop Mechanism: After the fuse melts, due to the action of its own weight or a spring, the fuse tube will "drop" downward, forming an obvious disconnect point, which is convenient for maintenance personnel to judge whether the circuit breaker has operated and carry out visual inspection.
